Andrew McKinnon Presents
'Dickens' Women'
starring Miriam Margolyes
2007 saw
theatre goers across Australia enjoying a trip into history,
through the lives of the women in Charles
Dickens' life, both real and fictional.
Award-winning British actor Miriam Margolyes is
one of the most knowledgeable and brilliant
interpreters of Charles Dickens, and her
wonderful sense of humour shined as she traced the startling similarities of the women in
Dickens' work and his life.
Among the 23 different
characters (male and female) brought to life by
Miriam, were The Old Curiosity Shop's
Little Nell, loyal Mrs Micawber from David
Copperfield (inspired by Dickens' own mother) and
the cold, embittered Miss Havisham from Great
Expectations.
Laughter and tears combined
in this entertaining show and some surprising
revelations were made. Dickens' Women has been
acclaimed around the world, and Miriam's West
End season in the Duke of York Theatre earned
her an Olivier Award nomination.
Dickens' Women
was the first show to tour Australia with a
captioned performance in every venue.
