Description:
Housed at Fremantle’s historic Victoria Hall, Deckchair Theatre was founded in 1983 and has premiered over 80 new Australian plays. Following our Fremantle seasons, many have gone on to tour far and wide, garnering a swag of awards, including a highly coveted Edinburgh ‘Fringe First’ for Outstanding New Production and most recently a WA Equity Guild Award for Best Director.
Across its 26 years, hundreds of Australia’s most talented writers, directors, designers and performers have been brought together in Fremantle to collaborate on the creation of original works. For our ever-evolving audience, there have been many intoxicating journeys into bold new territory.
Deckchair is Fremantle’s only adult professional theatre company, and one of the very few theatre companies in the country solely dedicated to the task of developing and presenting new Australian theatre.

Description:
Founded in 1953, Melbourne Theatre Company is the oldest professional theatre company in Australia. It is a semi-autonomous department of the University of Melbourne. Producing up to twelve plays in a subscription season, a full education program and a studio program, it is not only Victoria’s major theatre company and one of the major performing arts companies in Australia, but one of the largest theatre companies in the English-speaking world.
In January 2009, the MTC Theatre, the Company’s new performance home, opened on Southbank Boulevard in the heart of Melbourne’s cultural precinct, allowing much of their season to be performed on the new 500-seat stage of the Sumner Theatre. There is also the 150-seat Lawler Studio, which will allow the Company to develop edgier works and new writers.
The Company in 2009 has also moved its Headquarters from Ferrars Street, Southbank, where it has been since the 1970s, to new renovated offices and workshops in Sturt Street.

Description:
The Octagon Theatre is an intimate thrust stage venue with 658 tiered seats. The design was based on advice from Sir Tyrone Guthrie. Versatility is the feature of the venue with stage extensions increasing width to 12 metres or the removal of the thrust stage to allow installation of 100 additional seats. Removing half the stage reveals an orchestra pit. Facilities include Green room, dressing rooms for 70 cast members and a 120 sq metre rehearsal studio with a sprung floor. A comprehensive lighting and sound rig and large lamp stock ensure most technical requirements can be provided in-house. The venue's intimacy and excellent sightlines enhance all performance genres. The Octagon has hosted Opera, classical and popular music, dance, theatre, stand up comedy and seminars. Notable acts include Steven Berkoff, Paco Pena, Marianne Faithfull, Sean Hughes and the West Australian Opera. In April 2006 the Octagon Theatre
